A Sunday night accident in Assumption Parish left three victims hospitalized and one dead. Brian Gilton, 26, and his three young children were traveling along LA 1 Sunday night around 9 p.m. in a Chevrolet Impala when Gilton veered off the right hand shoulder of the highway.
The Impala hit a culvert, a utility pole, and then proceeded to roll over. Gilton, and his three children ages 4, 5, and 8, were all ejected from the vehicle. The eldest child sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The two youngest children and the father were taken to hospitals to address their injuries.
It was reported that Gilton was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. It was also noted that the three children were not restrained properly. After the accident, police took a sample of Gilton’s blood and investigators are currently waiting on test results. Police believe that Gilton may have been impaired during the accident.
