New Orleans made national headlines last weekend when tragedy struck the Endymion parade on Saturday evening. Neilson Rizzuto, 25, of Pardis, plowed into crowds of parade onlookers with his pickup truck, and registered a blood alcohol that was nearly three times the state legal limit. As of Monday, 3 of the 24 people who were hospitalized were still being treated. Mayor Mitch Landrieu reported that none of the injuries were life-threatening. Rizzuto now faces upwards of 26 charges for the incident, including two counts of first-degree vehicular negligent injuring, one count of hit-and-run driving resulting in serious injury and one count of reckless operation of a vehicle. His current bail is set for $420,000 and reports indicate that he currently remains in jail. Drinking and driving has serious consequences, both personal and legal.
