NOPD issued a press release yesterday indicating that one of their own officers was arrested as a result of an undercover prostitution sting undertaken by the department. [caption id="attachment_2177" align="alignright" width="269" caption="Photo Courtesy of stanford.edu"][/caption] The details are as follow: (June 30, 2011)- Officer Marc Galbreth, 24, is under arrest and charged with Solicitation of Prostitution after he allegedly offered an undercover police officer money in exchange for sex. Galbreth was one of several persons who approached one of the undercover police officers in a “reversal prostitution sting” which was conducted by the Special Investigations Division’s Narcotics/Vice Unit between June 14th and June 22nd. Galbreth initiated an illegal contact in the 7800-block of Chef Menteur Highway, but fled the scene before an arrest could be made. The undercover officer posing as a prostitute immediately reported to supervisors that an unknown man, later learned to be Galbreth, flashed NOPD credentials. She did see part of the man’s license plate as he drove away. With the information she provided, the Public Integrity Bureau (PIB) was able to identify Galbreth and charge him with “Solicitation of Prostitution.” Galbreth was arrested today and placed on Emergency Suspension, which means he is suspended without pay from the police force while PIB conducts a complete investigation. Galbreth has been with the NOPD for 2 years, 8 months. “I’d like to commend the undercover officer for wasting no time and informing PIB about what she encountered that night. The information she provided helped us identify this officer, and we were able to quickly get an investigation underway and take swift action. This incident clearly demonstrates that we have incredibly capable, skillful officers working within this police department who are clearly making a difference”, Superintendent Serpas said. This is clearly an ironic turn of events for the sting operation but it is commendable that the department did not hesitate to arrest the offending officer.
