Celebrities Arrested For Marijuana Possession

Posted on Apr 5, 2019 in Drugs, Marijuana

Celebrities: beneath all the glamor and bankroll, they’re just like everyone else. Right? I don’t know. Probably not. But what I’m trying to say is sometimes they like to relax with a few tokes of Mary Jane. Okay, in some cases, it’s more than a few tokes (see below). In 2019, weed is becoming more and more acceptable in mainstream culture. It’s been legalized completely in a number of states, and largely decriminalized here in New Orleans. However, marijuana is still illegal in most states, and if you are caught in possession you will likely be arrested and face jail time. That goes for famous people too. Check out our list below of celebrities who have been arrested for weed possession. Our list contains some famous smokers who were more or less bound to get caught eventually, with their well-known and oft-publicized love for weed. But we’ve also included a few that might catch you by surprise.

Allen Iverson

Practice? Y’all talking about practice? No, we’re talking about marijuana! Listen, being a superstar in the NBA is a stressful job, and that’s to say nothing of the physical toll. Professional athletes’ bodies take a beating competing at the highest level night after night. In 1997, just one year after winning Rookie of the Year, Allen Iverson was arrested during a traffic stop when the police found weed on him as well as an unregistered gun. Can anybody really blame athletes for relaxing with some pot now and then? In recent years, athletes have been more vocal about the benefits of weed for the stress and pain they deal with, and their frustration with major sports leagues’ policing it. In a recent post that went viral, former Dallas Cowboys player David Irving claimed to be quitting the NFL over their drug policies.

Willie Nelson

Is anybody really surprised about this one? The Ganj Grandfather himself has never been quiet about his love for marijuana, and he’s had many run-ins with the law over the years. He’s been arrested and charged multiple times for possession, including one time here in Louisiana. He’s been caught with as much as 6 ounces of marijuana on his tour bus. Nobody is surprised that Willie Nelson is smoking weed of course, and Willie’s not doing anything to hide it. However, the police can’t show up at Mr. Nelson’s door simply because they heard him singing about getting high. Police must have probable cause for searching a person and their possessions, or when pulling someone over. In drug defense cases, a drug defense attorney may be able to get a case thrown out, even if their client was busted with possession, if they can prove that the arresting officer did not have probable cause to pull over their client in the first place. Haley Joel Osment

Here’s one you might not expect! Most everyone knows him as the round-faced creepy kid from The Sixth Sense or the round-faced precocious kid from Pay It Forward. But you know what? He grew up, and sometimes he tokes up. Osment was pulled over back in 2006 at the age of 18. He was arrested for drinking and driving as well as marijuana possession. He had been on his way home from a concert. Sounds like he was just having a good night, but made the mistake of getting behind the wheel after drinking. Remember, don’t let a good night turn into a bad one. Especially in 2019, there are always better options than driving under the influence. If you are caught driving while high or under the influence of drugs you may be charged with a DWI, same as if you’d been drinking alcohol. If you have been consuming drugs or alcohol, never get behind the wheel of a vehicle. Call an Uber or Lyft instead, or get a cab or friend to pick you up.

Macauley Culkin

Continuing the trend of child stars, it turns out everyone’s favorite kid prankster also likes to partake from time to time. Culkin was arrested in 2004 for marijuana possession and possession of controlled substances. He’s been candid about his drug use, and spoken out about the stigma against it. Some people may feel shocked to find out that little Kevin McCallister grew up to smoke weed, but are we really surprised that the guy behind the Pizza Underground didn’t have a little extra creative influence?

David Bowie & Iggy Pop

Yeah, Ziggy Stardust smokes weed. Who would have thunk it? Back in the 70s, Bowie, Iggy Pop, and two others were hanging out in a hotel room late into the night when they received a visit from the police. They were arrested for possession of marijuana. Bowie, holy angel saint that he is, posted bond for all four.

Bill Murray

While we’re back in the 70s, let’s talk about everybody’s favorite lovable uncle, Bill Murray. Murray’s almost as famous now for his eternal, effortless cool guy persona offscreen as he is for his iconic performances in comedies over the last few decades. However, well before the fame, Murray got himself wrapped up in a comedy of errors with the threat of some real consequences. When he was only 20 years old, Murray was detained in an airport after an employee overheard him joking to a friend that he had a bomb in his bag. When security searched the bag, they didn’t find a bomb. But they did find 5 lbs of marijuana. Wow, Bill. We knew you were chill. But we didn’t know you were getting-on-a-plane-with 5-lbs-of-weed chill.

The Beatles

Let’s just say that at various times, every single one of the Beatles has been arrested for possession of marijuana. Oh, except for Ringo. Poor Ringo always gets left out.
