The dispute arises out of the two actors' ownership of shares in and efforts to promote centrifuge cleanup devices in the aftermath of the BP oil spill. Baldwin claims that Costner misled him into selling his shares in the company that manufactures the devices shortly before large orders were placed, resulting in significant increases in the value of the shares.
