The New Orleans Police Department issued a statement today indicating that crime statistics for the 4-day period surrounding and including the Bayou Classic were down from 2009.
The Bayou Classic has traditionally represented a time of increased arrests and occasional violence in years past.
Crime Statistics for 2009 and 2010 according to the Department’s report are as follows:
State Arrests 13
Municipal Arrests 60
Fugitive Arrests 14
Narcotic Arrests 3
State Arrests 22
Municipal Arrests 21
Fugitive Arrests 3
Narcotic Arrests 1
NOPD says that this represents a 46% decrease overall from the previous year in total arrests.
This news comes amidst reports of the fatal shooting of two men in the Downtown area which police suspect was the result of an ongoing feud which originated in Baton Rouge.
