Although the impact of such programs on actual crime statistics is uncertain, the Sheriff's Office maintains that the service provides value to the community. The Program will be hosted in locations on both sides of the river: SATURDAY (1/7/11) AT 9AM: Westbank: Second Zion Baptist Church - 6520 Second Zion Avenue in Marrero Eastbank: Marine Baptist Church - 3034 Andover St in Metairie Residents who would like to participate in the program are asked that weapons be brought in working condition, wrapped in some sort of covering, and transported in the trunk of a vehicle. No questions will be asked as to the origins of the weapons. The Gun Buyback Program will offer $50 cash for rifles, handguns, and shotguns and $200 cash for assault weapons. The program will remain in operation until funds are exhausted.
