NOPD Reports Crime Stats For Bayou Classic Weekend Down From 2009

The New Orleans Police Department issued a statement today indicating that crime statistics for the 4-day period surrounding and including the Bayou Classic were down from 2009. [caption id="attachment_1395" align="alignright" width="300"] Photo Courtesy of hbcusportsblog.com[/caption] The Bayou Classic has traditionally represented a time of increased arrests and occasional violence in years past. Crime Statistics for 2009 and 2010 according to the Department's report are as follows: 2009 State Arrests 13 Municipal Arrests 60 Fugitive Arrests 14 Narcotic Arrests 3 2010 State Arrests 22 Municipal Arrests 21 Fugitive Arrests 3 Narcotic Arrests 1 NOPD says that this represents a 46% decrease overall from the previous year in total arrests. This news comes amidst reports of the fatal shooting of two men in the Downtown area which police suspect was the result of an ongoing feud which originated in Baton Rouge.
