While Anne Hathaway lit up the Oscar stage, her co-host lit up back stage. James Franco, who has appeared on SNL as “Agent 420,” appeared to be stoned throughout his much maligned performance at the Oscars. He seemed almost lost as he stumbled over lines and plodded around the stage. [caption id="attachment_1734" align="alignright" width="225"] Photo Courtesy of people.com[/caption] Franco has always carried himself with a relaxed demeanor which has earned him roles in stoner comedies like “Pineapple Express.” In fact, the producer of the intense survival film “127 Hours” was at first reticent to cast the actor in the leading role thinking that he had been stoned throughout their first meeting. Only after the producer was assured Franco was sober did he give him the part. The young actor and his staff insist that he does not drink or do drugs ever, and that the reputation as a stoner was only given to him because of his naturally care free attitude. They also attribute his spacey performance to exhaustion. While preparing for the Oscars, Franco was earning his PhD in English, working on a new film, and commuting coast to coast.
