Temporary Traffic and Parking Restrictions in Place for Mardi Gras Parades

Posted on Feb 21, 2017 in Uncategorized

Vehicular access in the French Quarter and on-street parking will be limited from Wednesday, February 22nd until March 1st, 6am as means of reducing traffic and ramping up security measures. Parade nights will see the heaviest congestion in the metro area, so on those evenings from 5pm till 5am only taxis, limos, hotel guests, transportation network companies (Uber, Lyft, etc.) and vehicles needing to access business and residences will be able to enter the French Quarter from Canal St., Rampart St., Esplanade Ave., and Decatur St. Bourbon St. will be open only to pedestrians from 100-800 blocks. The city will introduce about 3000 temporary No Parking signs along parade routes, and any unauthorized vehicle parked along the published parade route two hours prior to the beginning of the parade will be ticketed and towed ($75 fine). Stay clear of parking along the parade route two hours after a parade as well so that the Department of Sanitation can come through for cleaning. Violators face fines of $75. You can visit www.mardigras.com/parades/ to get a full look at the parade routes and schedules through next Tuesday. If you plan on heading into town to celebrate, have fun and stay safe!
