Man charged with 8th DWI on Mardi Gras after crash

An Abita Springs man was arrested for his 8th DWI in Mandeville on Mardi Gras (February 17, 2015) evening after borrowing a friend’s truck without her permission and returning it with extensive damage. The man, James Hittson, had borrowed a friend’s 2006 Avalanche and hit another vehicle and fled without reporting the accident. He was charged with hit-and-run, DWI, simple assault, and driving on a suspended license. He has had 7 prior DWIs from all over Louisiana starting in 1984.
