Have Fun and Be Safe at the ESSENCE Festival

Posted on Jun 28, 2016 in DUI/DWI

Going to festivals is one of the best parts of summer. From the nice weather to the good food and the great music, there’s no reason why festival season shouldn’t be your favorite season. After all, who doesn’t enjoy spending time with your favorite people? Bloom Legal wants you to enjoy every festival as much as possible. One event that is currently on our radar is the ESSENCE Festival. Running from Thursday June 30, 2016 to late in the night on Sunday July 3, 2016.  It may be just the ticket (no pun intended!) to get you in the festival spirit. This year’s ESSENCE Festival looks to be better than ever before. Expos like Beauty & Style will help you find your new look, while Money & Power will supercharge your business plan. Artists like Mariah Carey, Puff Daddy, Estelle and many more will have you humming and singing all day long. And speakers like Misty Copeland, Michelle Williams (of Destiny’s Child) and Reverend Al Sharpton will give you some food for thought in the speaker series. There’s so much going on, you’ll have to take a look at all of the lineups and make a plan! But nothing ruins a great time like having a run-in with law enforcement. The best weekends can often be brought to a halt when things move from fun to illegal. So, we suggest you make some of the following smart judgment calls and avoid having a brush with the law altogether.  Doing so will maximize your enjoyment for ESSENCE Fest and all festivals you’re planning to attend this summer.

Don’t Drink and Drive

Our first recommendation is to be mindful while drinking. We understand wanting to have a few drinks. But, as New Orleans DUI attorneys, we have seen more than our fair share of alcohol-induced traffic violations. While we do our best to help those who have been arrested for a DUI or DWI keep their license, insurance and freedom, we think you’ll be much happier if you can avoid the arrest to begin with. So if you do plan to drink, make sure that you have a designated driver, taxi, Uber or make use of public transportation. You’ll keep yourself and everyone around you so much safer.

Leave Plenty of Time

Our next recommendation is to allow plenty of time to travel to and from the event. Speeding is always a recipe for disaster, so make sure to plan ahead so you won’t be rushed. We know you don’t want to be late for your favorite artist or speaker, but we want you to be safe on the road. Aggressive driving can be just as dangerous as intoxicated driving, so it’s important to stay calm and focused.

Remember: Security is There to Help

It’s always good to remember that security at festivals and other large events is there to keep you safe. Although you may be determined to have fun on your own terms, the best way to avoid a confrontation with the police is to understand that they are there to help. However, if you or someone you know gets into legal trouble at the ESSENCE Festival or any other festival this summer, contact us for an initial consultation regarding your legal rights.
