The pair would contact local dealers and private sellers about purchasing a vehicle and secure a test drive. As the pair drove away in the car, the dealer was left to figure out they were never coming back. The pair would sell the stolen cars to salvage companies on the West Bank under their real identities, which led the police to put out a warrant for Joseph's arrest. It was the father's attempt to steal $600 worth of power tools from a residence on Clearview Parkway that led to his arrest. Joseph was also identified as the man on a residential surveillance camera stealing power tools on a seperate occasion. The two would use the money to support Jessica's heroin addiction.
