December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month

Posted on Dec 17, 2019 in DUI/DWI

December is generally a month of gatherings and holiday celebrations for many. Thanksgiving has passed and the holiday season in full swing.  Given the festive season, there will likely be more parties to go to, more time spent with family members, and more celebrations in general. However, parties and gatherings can lead to an increase in alcohol or drug consumption. Although such activities will be enjoyable at the time, they may lead to poor choices later on once the celebrations end. One such poor choice is getting behind the wheel of an automobile while impaired. Unfortunately, our New Orleans DUI lawyer knows all too well that drunk and/or impaired driving happens more often than we think. The original Presidential Proclamation recognizing December as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month discusses the fact that preventable alcohol-related fatalities accounted for numerous traffic fatalities in 2015. Regardless of your age or driving experience, operating a vehicle while impaired is never smart. But our New Orleans DUI lawyer understands that you may not realize the level of your impairment and that your motor functions and response times are drastically impacted when you are under the influence. This means that you are more likely to make choices that put yourself and others in danger. We appreciate the fact that initiatives like the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign are raising awareness about the importance of safe driving.  In a world where there are a wide range of transportation options (especially ridesharing), it is easier than ever to find alternative ways to get home or to your final destination once you realize that you are too impaired.  Still, we also understand that sometimes accidents do happen and we are here to help you should you find yourself stopped for DUI and facing charges.
