Photo courtesy of KATC The LDWF (Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Operation Dry Water) arrested five baoers charged with DWI. The administrator commented that DWI enforcement on the water is very serious since alcohol is the leading cause of boating fatalities. Alcohol can impair a boater's judgment, balance, vision, and reaction time as well as increase fatigue and susceptibility to cold-water immersion effects. Louisiana law dictates that a DWI on the water carries the same penalties and fines as on the road including jail time, fines and loss of driving and boating operator privileges for a blood-alcohol level of .08 or higher. First offenders face a $300-$1,000 fine and up to six months in jail. For more on this story, visit http://www.katc.com/news/boaters-cited-for-dwi-including-kaplan-man/
