videoframe - legal tips during Mardi Gras

“Honored to appear on WDSU to share important safety tips for enjoying Mardi Gras responsibly in New Orleans. While Carnival is a time for celebration, it’s also a period when law enforcement steps up enforcement, so staying informed is key.” – Seth Bloom

What the Interview Covered

In the interview, I explained that Mardi Gras is a season of joy, but it is also one where people can easily make mistakes that lead to costly consequences. I emphasized the importance of staying hydrated and making smart choices, reminding viewers that although alcohol flows freely during Carnival, public intoxication and inappropriate behavior remain offenses that police actively enforce.

I noted that “everything does not go on Mardi Gras,” and stressed that respectful behavior is crucial. I also pointed out that if someone is detained, it is best to remain calm, cooperate with officers, and avoid interfering, since escalation often makes matters worse. Finally, I explained that New Orleans police sometimes use mobile booking units to issue citations on the spot, which can be a far better outcome than being transported to Orleans Parish Prison.

Why This Matters in Louisiana

At Bloom Legal Network, we see firsthand how quickly a festive night can turn into a stressful legal ordeal. Every year during Mardi Gras, we represent individuals across New Orleans, Metairie, Jefferson Parish, and throughout Southeast Louisiana who face arrests, citations, or legal confusion after the parades. By sharing this guidance, we aim to help locals and visitors enjoy Mardi Gras responsibly while avoiding unnecessary legal trouble.
