Metairie man fakes carjacking to avoid DWI arrest
Posted on Oct 30, 2014 in Criminal Defense, DUI/DWI
A man in Metairie was arrested this past Sunday after filing a false police report for his stolen vehicle to avoid a DWI arrest. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office received several phone calls on October 19 about a man, Mr. Ornaldo Carera-Lopez, driving erratically. Several witnesses had tried to stop the vehicle to avoid any injuries, and the man jumped out of the vehicle, appeared heavily intoxicated, and fled the scene. After Mr. Cabrera-Lopez gave the JPSO a description of the vehicle, they noticed it was the same vehicle from the complaints. When confronted about the story, Mr. Cabrera-Lopez admitted he had fabricated the story to avoid a DWI arrest due to his heavy intoxication. He had gone to the JPSO in the hopes he could retrieve the vehicle from the tow lot.
