On Friday, May 23, friends and family gathered to celebrate JeShan Vail’s high school graduation. Vail had recently graduated from George Washington Carver High School. Moments before midnight, gun fire erupted at the crowded party after a small argument ensued.

The shots killed 15 year old Tremaine Robertson, Vail’s brother, who was visiting from Texas. Seven other bystanders were wounded. Six of the seven were immediately in stable condition, but one 19 year old female underwent surgery due to the injuries sustained.

Police were informed that the assailant was wearing a red colored shirt. Upon further investigation, police noticed that a young man by the name of Zachary Gibson was wearing a red shirt in photographs taken during the event. A witness was also able to identify Gibson during a lineup.

On Wednesday, May 28, 19 year old Gibson was arrested and taken into custody. He was found on Sixth Street, near his home. Gibson will face one charge of second degree murder. It is also anticipated that Gibson will face seven additional charges of attempted second degree murder. Gibson’s bond has been set at $750,000.
