Nola on Tap: Support a Good Cause…and Stay Safe

Posted on Sep 22, 2016 in DUI/DWI

It’s safe to say that most people enjoy having a good time. When the weekend rolls around and you’ve got two days to yourself, there’s nothing better than getting out with your friends and family and enjoying all that your city has to offer. Especially in New Orleans, it seems like there’s always something going on. That said, you have plenty of reasons to get up and take part in the fun. This month, one festival in particular gives us an extra reason to remind you to enjoy the festivities responsibly. On September 24th, 2016, The Bulldog and Louisiana SPCA will host the 7th Annual NOLA on Tap Beer Fest! This is scheduled to be an afternoon of great brews for a great cause. And we have to say, we always love a party with a conscience. From 1-8pm festival-goers will be able to enjoy drinks, food, art, music and much more! And while we certainly won’t try and dissuade you from participating in the largest fundraiser for the Louisiana SPCA, we will advise you to use your best judgment when drinking. After all, no one wants to end up with a DUI on the way home, right? So, here are a few tips for how you can have fun and get home safely.

Bring Your Friends

There’s always safety in numbers. And when it comes to drinking, this can definitely apply. When you attend an event with a group of people, it is much easier to have at least one designated driver. As an added bonus, more friends mean more people to look out for each other. If you notice someone in your group has had a little too much, you can check in with them to make sure they have a plan to get home safely or offer to take them home yourself.

Know Your Limit

That said, it’s important that you go to the event knowing how much you can safely consume. You are the only one who knows your ability to function after one, two or three drinks. So be smart. By sticking to your safe number, you’ll increase your chances of getting home without any issues.

Properly Maintain Your Car

Think that burnt out headlight has nothing to do with a potential DUI? Think again! Police officers may pull you over for an improperly maintained light, only to suspect that you are not in a condition to drive. Don’t let that happen to you! Keep your car in good shape and you’re less likely to get pulled over in the first place. Still, let us be perfectly clear -- we do not condone drinking and driving. So, make smart choices when you get behind the wheel.

Don’t Lie About Your Age

We know that it can be tempting for people underage to pull out a fancy fake ID in order to purchase alcohol. This is always a bad idea. But drinking underage and then getting behind the wheel makes things worse. If you’re pulled over, not only will you be driving while intoxicated, but you will also be drinking underage. And that’s a recipe for disaster. So, don’t be tempted to pull one over on the cops…or anyone else for that matter. Drinking safely and at the legally-appointed age is worth the wait. We hope you’ll have a great time this fall, whether you’re going to NOLA on Tap or any other festival this season. And if you keep our tips in mind, you’re likely to get home without a hitch.
