Orleans Parish School Board Member becomes President

Posted on Jan 21, 2015 in Local Issues

Tuesday evening was filled with big announcements as a new superintendent and new president of the Orleans Parish School Board were announced. The vote for new superintendent came after 3 years of interim leadership, leading many to believe that a permanent leader would never come to be. On Tuesday, the Board members voted unanimously to select Henderson Lewis, Jr. to be the new superintendent for Orleans Parish. Previously, Lewis, Jr. was Superintendent for the East Feliciana Parish School Board, and his experience in Louisiana's school system helped put him on top over the other candidate, Debbra Lindo. Ms. Lindo had served as superintendent of a school system in California, Mr. Bloom said. Mr. Seth Bloom was also elected as the new President of the School Board on Tuesday after years of serving as a Board member.
