Southern Decadence Kicks Off Labor Day Weekend

Posted on Aug 30, 2013 in Drugs, DUI/DWI, Local Issues

Last night, the 2013 Southern Decadence kicked off in New Orleans. The annual festival celebrating gay and lesbian culture in New Orleans occurs every year on Labor Day weekend. The days and nights are filled with themed parties catering to various interests, most all of them including alcohol as a means to loosen up and celebrate. The epicenter of the event is at the corner of St. Ann and Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans, where two of the largest and most famous gay bars - The Bourbon Pub and Parade and the Oz are located. These two bars on Bourbon Street will be packed all weekend, from morning - to night - and morning again. On Friday at 11 PM, the Official Southern Decadence Grand Marshals' Drag Show will take place on Royal Street in the French Quarter at the Golden Lantern, another popular gay bar in New Orleans. On Saturday, at the corner of St. Ann and Bourbon Street, an outdoor free concert will be held with popular dance music starting at 5 PM. Finally, the famous Southern Decadence Parade will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, which begins at the Golden Lantern in the French Quarter and winds its way through the streets of the French Quarter. All of those taking part in this fun party weekend should keep in mind that just because it's called Southern Decadence doesn't mean that you can do anything you want. The police will still enforce laws, and therefore, many locals and visitors alike could be arrested if they commit a crime. The most common crimes this weekend are public drunkenness, DWI, and drug crimes. If you are arrested during Southern Decadence in New Orleans, Bloom Legal can help.
