Muses Kick-Off to Mardi Gras

Posted on Feb 7, 2013 in Drugs, DUI/DWI, Local Issues, Mardi Gras, Traffic

Mardi Gras season is in full-throttle as the official start of the "must-see" krewes kicks off tonight with the parade "Krewe of Muses". Muses is the all-female powerhouse of Mardi Gras, whose signature throw are decorated and bedazzled shoes. They first rolled in 2000 to great fanfare and over the years has developed into a premiere parade that locals see as the "official" start of the countdown to Mardi Gras day. This year Muses will be unveiling a new parade float to send off their 13th year as a krewe. 2013 is also the year they have the privilege of garnering their very own T-shirt design by Dirty Coast that succinctly sums up their krewe - “Throw Me Sumthin’ Sista”. People from far and wide ditch work early and don brightly colored wigs to go with the whimsy of the krewe. Many families turn up to see the spectacle and as usual, have their ladders in tow. Each year families get more creative with transporting and keeping their kids happy during the madness of a rolling parade. This particular art form has evolved over the years to make parading less of a hassle, and more enjoyable for parents and children alike. Please be aware that tying these ladders to anything, including other ladders, is prohibited and unsafe. Although partying is encouraged for the Carnival season, please use a designated driver.
