New Bill Aims to Change How Citizens Contest N.O. Traffic Tickets

Posted on Mar 21, 2012 in Courts, Local Issues, Traffic

A bill sponsored by Louisiana State Senator J.P. Morrell (D - New Orleans) is looking to change the appeals process for people who get traffic camera tickets in the city. The bill would give drivers ticketed by traffic cameras at least two more chances to appeal their citations in court. The first level of appeals would stay the same, with an administrative hearing. After that, the ticket could be appealed to a traffic court judge. Lastly, if unsuccessful there, it could be appealed to a small claims court. The measure received committee approval, and is headed to the floor of the State Senate for debate.
