January 26th, 2010 | Posted in Celebrity Justice by bloom | No Comments »

A lesson on why you should always show up for your court date:

Former child star and actor Gary Coleman was arrested Sunday after police responded to a domestic disturbance call at his Utah home. The officers quickly determined that no crime had been committed, but arrested Coleman on an outstanding warrant.

The warrant stemmed from a prior domestic violence incident, in the wake of which Coleman failed to appear for a court date at which point the warrant was issued. Coleman was held until Monday on $1,725 bail.

A flat tire, a medical emergency, a family crisis: there is no shortage of incidents that can lead to a missed court date, but remember that the matter will not just disappear. NOLA’s Birdman Busted: When Can the Cops Search Your Car?

November 28th, 2007 | Posted in Celebrity Justice, NOPD, Traffic by bloom | No Comments »

birdman-fastmoney.jpgNOLA native Birdman, aka Bryan Williams, was busted yesterday in Tennessee — along with 16 other people in his RV as it rode along Interstate 81 — for possession of marijuana.

According to press reports, a police officer saw the RV change lanes, forcing a tractor trailer rig into the emergency lane.  The cop pulled the Birdman-mobile over, and smelled marijuana smoke coming from inside the RV.  He asked for permission to search the RV, was given consent, and found a pound of marijuana in a trash can, in the RV’s kitchenette.

He also found a handgun, a magazine for a .45, and an assault rifle.  (This has brought ATF into the case, but there haven’t been any charges on the guns yet.)

So, when can the police pull you over?  When can they search your car?  Continue Reading »

Kiefer’s DUI and Britney’s Hit and Run – Big Deals?

car_crash_2.jpgThis afternoon, Kiefer Sutherland’s attorney announced that he pleads “no contest” to Driving Under the Influence (he was arrested on 9/25 for two misdemeanor counts of DUI)  — he pled the same thing to a prior DUI in 2004.

Also this afternoon, Britney Spear’s attorney appeared in court on her behalf — and Britney has been ordered to come into LA County and be booked for hit and run before the big 10/26 hearing in her custody case.

What’s the big deal about all this? Continue Reading »

OJ Simpson – No Slam Dunk Here

September 24th, 2007 | Posted in Celebrity Justice, Courts by bloom | No Comments »

oj.jpgThe Guardian has compiled a good overview of what happened in Vegas with OJ Simpson in the hotel room with all the sports memorabilia.  The Associated Press has prepared a timeline, as well.

TMZ is quoting a story from the New York Post, where six weeks ago OJ allegedly appeared at the home of his handyman, girlfriend Christine Prody in tow, to accuse the guy of sleeping with Prody and threatening to kill him.  Included in the story is a reference to several domestic dispute calls made by Prody over the past 10 years.

Meanwhile, OJ’s being used as the prime example of a “well implemented asset protection strategy” by at least one law firm, while the Goldman Family is attempting to seize the Vegas sports memorabilia as part of collecting on its civil judgment and they’re investigating the possibility of money stashed in offshore bank accounts.  They’ve already obtained OJ’s Rolex, after seeing the watch in a news photo covering the Vegas caper.

OJ made bail, even though several pundits were arguing that it would never happen.  He left Nevada, and returned to Florida without a problem.  He’s said to be pleading “not guilty” to the charges.

Hulk Hogan’s Son in Car Crash — Hulk At the Scene: 10 Things to Do When You Witness a Car Crash

August 27th, 2007 | Posted in Celebrity Justice, Personal Injury, Traffic by bloom | No Comments »

hulk_hogan.jpgHulk Hogan’s son was seriously injured last night, when the Toyota Supra he was driving went out of control, jumped a median, and crashed into a tree.  Nick Hogan was driving.  Both he and his buddy, John Graziano, were airlifted to a nearby hospital and reported to be in serious condition.   This morning, Hogan’s pal John remains in critical condition, but Hogan’s injuries are no longer listed as life-threatening.  (TMZ is reporting that Hulk Hogan’s son has been released.)

Hulk Hogan was filmed at the scene of the accident, moments after it occurred.  News reports are unclear, but apparently paramedics arrived quickly, and The Hulk was seen talking with them, as they awaited the MediVac helicopter.

What should you do if you are ever in the position that Hulk Hogan was in, at the scene of a car crash, where there are victims who are seriously injured?
