One of New Orleans’ fastest growing and most popular festivals, Po-Boy Fest, will be taking place this weekend.

The festival which has grown from modest beginnings drawing a crowd of 5,000 to Oak St, to a whopping 50,000 estimated attendants, will run Sunday from 10am-7pm at its usual location on Oak St between S. Carrolton and Eagle St.

Admission is free although the festival will be offering $150 VIP wristbands or $200 passes which include wristbands and guaranteed parking spaces.

Festival organizers have reported a number of new features this year include expanding the length of the festival area and the addition of a bike corral behind the Carrolton Ave Whitney Bank building as well as new seated-dining options.

An anticipated hot-item at this year’s festival will be the offering of newcomer, Blue Dot’s “Thai Pork Dough Boy”, a sandwich that reportedly involves the use of two doughnuts.

As always, Po-Boy Fest will also feature great live music including performances by: George Porter Jr., Flowtribe, The Revivalists, and Dee-1.

With Tropical Depression 13 remaining nearly stationary off the southern coast of Louisiana, it is certain to be a particularly wet holiday weekend. This is unfortunate because in addition to the Labor Day holiday Monday, New Orleans is also celebrating Southern Decadence this weekend.

Southern Decadence is a week-long, predominantly gay male event held in New Orleans sometimes referred to as “Gay Mardi Gras.” The event culminates with a parade through the French Quarter the Sunday before Labor Day and has been known to attract crowds of 100,000 – 300,000 from all across the U.S. bringing in $160 million in revenue to the city in 2010. In addition to the Decadence festivities, the city is sure to be in full party mode for the Labor Day holiday on Monday despite the inclement forecast.

Because of the increased level of festivities, the influx of tourists, and the rainy/flooded conditions, it is strongly advised that visitors and citizens of New Orleans be especially careful when it comes to their drinking behavior. The police will be especially vigilant in the Quarter and across the city and everyone is urged to exercise responsible drinking habits by using designated drivers or cab services. Residents and tourists should also be careful to avoid flooded parts of the city and to try to park off-street or at the highest ground possible if leaving their vehicles for an extended period of time.

If you or someone you know are arrested over the Decadence/Labor Day weekend, Bloom Legal is here to help. Call us 24/7 at 504-599-9997 for DWI, Arrests, Traffic Tickets or Auto Accidents for a free case evaluation or visit us online at http://www.bloomlegal.com

Have a safe and happy weekend!

Wright has allegedly confessed to the murder and decapitation of his wheelchair-bound son who suffered from cerebral palsy. Police say that motive is still not completely clear but that it would appear that Wright had tired of caring for the child. Jori Lirette’s head and body were found dumped outside of his home with Wright sitting nearby.

Kerry Cuccia of the Capital Defense Project of Southeast Louisiana has been appointed to defend Wright.

Officials admit [...]

With the city’s recent budget shortfall, government officials are hoping the $91 million dollars owed in overdue parking tickets will help pay the bills. They also plan to replace ACS State & Local Solutions Inc., which is in charge of processing and collecting parking fines, for allowing such a large sum to accrue.

Orleans Traffic Warrant

Officials admit that collecting all $91 million will be impossible. Some of the oldest tickets were issued nearly a decade ago and have been labeled “uncollectable.” By pursuing more recent fines and bundling older ones for sale to private companies at a discounted price, the city hopes to collect up to $20 million dollars.

The city has told ACS State & Local Solutions Inc. to drop its price, implement an amnesty program for scofflaws and set up a payment program for repeat offenders, but the contract signed with the company by Ray Nagin makes it difficult for the city to enforce the changes. Soliciting for a new vendor to replace ACS will begin in December. This is good news for residents as many have reported double billings and inept customer service with ACS.

The city has been issuing warrants similar to the one pictured above for those with outstanding tickets. If you receive an arrest warrant such as this or feel you may have outstanding fines, Bloom Legal can offer legal assistance at 504-599-9997.

The Saints take on the 49ers tonight and will be looking to test out their new running backs including the newly acquired Darren Sproles and first-round draft pick Mark Ingram who will be competing with Pierre Thomas for the start.

The Black and Gold defense is an area where the lineup is still largely in the works and tonight’s game should allow frontrunners to emerge for starting positions.
