Abita Beer To Be Offered in Cans

July 27th, 2011 | Posted in Local Issues by bloom | No Comments »

In an attempt to keep their beer fresher, the Abita brewery switched from twist off to pry off bottles in 2009, but some drinkers complained that this was an inconvenience. Well, Abita’s new packaging should satisfy both the lazy and beer lovers who like their brew at the peak of freshness. Abita is offering cans.

Initially, three of the brewery’s flagship varieties will be offered with a possibility of more in the future. You will be able to buy Amber, Purple Haze and Jockamo IPA in six and twelve packs by early 2012.

Abita is leveraging a new technology to make sure that the move to cans does not taint the beer’s taste. A special water-based lining will coat the interior of the can. This allows the benefit of limited exposure to light and oxygen offered by cans without exposing the beer to the aluminum.

As a Louisiana brewery, Abita cites local concerns as a reason for the new offering. Abita Brewing Company President David Blossman is quoted as saying, “you can take cans to the places we love in Louisiana where glass might not be convenient or allowed: parades, fishing, tubing, golfing, the beach.”

Premiering in early 2012, we may have canned Abita just in time for Mardi Gras. If you or anyone you know has been arrested for a crime related to alcohol consumption, Bloom Legal can fight for you. Contact us at 504-599-9997 for a free case evaluation.

The Show Must Go On

With an 80% chance of rain tonight, Mother Nature is not cooperating this carnival, but it takes more than a little rain to keep a good city down. All of tonight’s krewes will be rolling regardless of the weather.

Hermes, Krewe d’Etat, and Morpheus will all be running through uptown although 30 minutes earlier than originally scheduled (Hermes rolls at 5:30 now), and Centurions will roll in Jefferson as scheduled. Be sure to pack your tents and umbrellas for the route in case of a drizzle, or if you’re lucky enough to live on the route, a house party would solve any precipitation problems. But then again, the weather’s warm and the beer is cold, so what’s the harm in a couple rain drops.

The million dollar question is whether or not Endymion will run tomorrow. The rumor mill is hard at work and is indicating that the super krewe will be running rain or shine, but there has been no official, definitive statement as of yet. If rain forces the parade to reschedule, Endymion will be rolling behind Bacchus on Sunday night combining Uptown’s and Mid-City’s crown jewels to form the super krewe singularity.

Rain or shine this will be a Mardi Gras to remember. Be safe and have fun. If you or anyone you know is arrested for DUI or public intoxication, contact Bloom Legal at 599-9997, so we can put it behind you and get you back to the party.

In homage to Star Wars, Peter Mayhew (the actor who played Chewbacca on the big screen) will be serving as King.

The parade rolls Sunday March 6 starting from the Big Top (1638 Clio) and making its way through the CBD.

Valentine’s Day usually ushers in a flurry of chocolate, flower and jewelry sales. But this year the holiday comes in the midst of a citywide love affair with the New Orleans Saints and at the height of the Mardi Gras season, forcing local retailers to resort to creative tactices to keep consumers interested.

Late this morning, with only five hours to go before the Carnival superkrewe of Endymion rolled its parade, the Theriots, who were manning a booth outside Mandina’s Restaurant on Canal Street, had served lunch plates to almost no one. Continue Reading »
