A suspect has been apprehended in the afternoon shooting of two teenagers found near the West Bank’s Martin Luther King Jr. parade.

About 2:15 p.m., parade goers heard gunshots near West Bank Expressway, between Ames Boulevard and Eiseman Avenue in Marrero, authorities said. Jefferson Parish sheriff’s officials subsequently found a 14-year-old boy shot in the leg and a 19-year-old man shot in both the leg and an unspecified part of his body, at 523 Ames Blvd., a couple blocks from the expressway.

University Hospital physicians are treating the two men, and their wounds are not considered life threatening, according to Col. John Fortunato, a sheriff’s spokesman.

After arriving at the scene, sheriff’s officials quickly apprehended a man, who had a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol in his possession near Eiseman and Expressway, according to Fortunato, who added that he does not yet have additional details on the suspect. Authorities found .45-caliber casings near the expressway and believe that while the wounded men were found at the 500 block of Ames, they likely were dragged or walked there.

“There was a blood trail leading from another direction,” said Fortunato, who explained the shooting either occurred at the tail end of the parade or immediately after its conclusion. “We have no idea if anyone of them were participants in the parade.”

He said that while they have a suspect in custody, they are not yet certain he was the shooter.

About 5 p.m., additional shots were fired around Betty Street, about a mile south of the original location. An additional suspect was apprehended for that incident, Fortunato said.

“There’s a lot of people out there, and we are trying to make determinations of where the incidents occurred, and we’re encouraging people to call with additional information,” he said.

Anyone with information may call the Sheriff’s Office at 504.364.5300 or Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111

Britney Spears’ Custody Fight: Today’s Secret Witness

September 17th, 2007 | Posted in Celebrity Justice by bloom | No Comments »

britneymtv1.jpgGloria Allred represents a “secret witness” who filed a declaration in Britney Spears’ custody fight with Kevin Federline, a man who she reportedly described to FoxNews as, “[y]ou may recognize him as we walk into court, but maybe not.  He is not famous.  He’s just someone who’s concerned about the kids.”  Needless to say, the declaration helps K-Fed and hurts Britney.

What is all this about a secret witness?  Isn’t this America?  How can someone just write something down, and use it against Britney?  Isn’t that unfair?  What about due process? Continue Reading »

Britney Spears Crazy Stupid or Self-Destructive? Can Anyone Stop This?

September 12th, 2007 | Posted in Celebrity Justice by bloom | No Comments »

britneymtv.jpgWe’re entering the 3rd day of What Happened to Britney Spears: Simon Cowell has given his opinion (she’s toast) and some poor guy has a big hit on YouTube, crying and asking everyone to stop bashing his beloved Britney.

Kanye West says MTV exploited her to get ratings for its awards show; MTV did get a big ratings boost this year, credited to Britney’s appearance.  But perhaps Miki Taylor, entertainment writer for MSNBC, says it best:  “Girlfriend has some serious issues.”

What, if anything, can be done to help Britney? Continue Reading »

Britney Spears Nasty Custody Fight Begins: K-Fed Serves Alli … And What About Britney’s Lollipops?

August 12th, 2007 | Posted in Celebrity Justice by bloom | No Comments »

britney-spears-hollywood-clubs-sucking-lollipop1.jpgBritney Spears’ cousin/assistant Alli Simms was served with a subpoena in the early hours of Sunday morning. So was Brit-Brit’s music producer, JR Rotem.  What’s this all about?

K-Fed’s attorneys are working hard:  the custody fight was just filed August 8th, and already the discovery process has begun – looks like Alli’s going to have to give deposition testimony about her personal knowledge of Britney’s parenting skills (or lack thereof), as is Britney’s producer, JR Rotem.

What’s all this?  And, what’s all this about these lollipops that Britney is seen with all the time?  Is there a connection in the filing of the suit and the lollipop rumors?

Does Britney Spears WANT to Lose Her Kids to K-Fed or CPS?

August 8th, 2007 | Posted in Celebrity Justice by bloom | No Comments »

baby.jpgLast night, Britney Spears left work at 9 pm (she’s making a music video) and instead of going home to the kids, she went to party.  Yesterday, a college student named Matt Encinas (an extra in the video) claimed that Britney Spears invited him to a late-night pool party at a Hollywood hotel over the weekend, where Britney tossed her clothes and played topless spin the bottle.  Also this week, Britney hit a parked car while out shopping, left the scene without leaving a note with her contact info for the other guy, and managed to get herself photographed once again without underwear.

These are just the events reported in the past three days.

All these antics beg the question: does Britney Spears want to lose her kids?  Because if that’s the goal, she’s doing a fine job of it.   Why? Continue Reading »

Britney Spears Vs. Her Mom

August 1st, 2007 | Posted in Celebrity Justice by bloom | No Comments »

britney_spears.jpgTMZ.COM is reporting a story from Life & Style that Britney Spears is telling her two sons things about Grandma Spears like, “She’s a bad lady,” according to an unnamed “insider.”  Brit doesn’t want her mom around her boys.  Britney’s mom, Lynne Spears, does have legal rights, though – and TMZ.COM covered those, as well:  under California law, grandparents do have legally protected visitation rights.

Britney’s got another legal fight on her hands here.

What if you’re like Britney, and don’t want your mom around your kids? Continue Reading »
