Did Mayor of Mandeville Get Special Treatment on DUI?

May. 7th 2008

Today’s Times-Picayune has a nice, big story about Mandeville Mayor Eddie Price driving his SUV (a Ford Expedition owned by the city, by the way) into a toll booth barrier a little before midnight on April 22nd — Price then drove about three more miles down the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway before the police pulled him over.  One more thing: he was driving with his headlights off.

And, according to the newspaper account, what happened then?

No citation, no field sobriety test, no checking the inside of the vehicle.  Price apparently told the two officers that he’d just had a “couple of drinks,” they didn’t see him weaving around or slurring his words, so they let him go  - although they wouldn’t let him drive, they made him call a relative to come and get him.

By now, the s*%^ has hit the fan — there’s an internal investigation at the department, Price has been ticketed (for careless operation of a motor vehicle) and the Times-Picaynue is all over this story like a duck on a junebug.

This story should sounds like something worth watching … and an interesting comparison to make for those not in the public eye, pulled over along that same stretch of road - if they say they’ve only had a couple of drinks, and they don’t obviously weave or slur their words, should they get to call home for a driver without any field sobriety testing, too?  Sure sounds like an argument to be made ….

Jan. 2nd 2008

britney_spears.jpgCommissioner Gordon signed a specific court order in mid-December, specifically ordering Britney Spears to attend the deposition that had already been ordered by the court to occur, and which had been scheduled at least twice prior to that court-ordered date.

Her reason for the last no-show?  She was sick, although TMZ reported that she out playing with friends later that same day.

What happens if Britney doesn’t show to this January deposition? Will she get arrested?

Oct. 9th 2007

car_crash_2.jpgThis afternoon, Kiefer Sutherland’s attorney announced that he pleads “no contest” to Driving Under the Influence (he was arrested on 9/25 for two misdemeanor counts of DUI)  — he pled the same thing to a prior DUI in 2004.

Also this afternoon, Britney Spear’s attorney appeared in court on her behalf — and Britney has been ordered to come into LA County and be booked for hit and run before the big 10/26 hearing in her custody case.

Lindsay Lohan Is Going to Jail says NOLA Attorney

Jul. 25th 2007

lohan_arrest2_070724_ms.jpgLindsay Lohan is stupid or crazy and she’s going to jail.  Think about it:  four days after turning herself into authorities for her Memorial Day crash, and getting officially charged with DUI, she’s busted again for (1) suspicion of driving under the influence; (2) driving while her license is suspended; (3) possession of a controlled substance (cocaine); and (4) bringing contraband into a custody facility.   You know the story

Then, LiLo gets released on bail, gets thrown into another rehab facility (you can bet that her attorney insisted upon this), and e-mails Billy Bush of Access Hollywood to report that she’s “innocent” and wants everyone to “respect her privacy.” Innocent? Right.

Meanwhile, her dad is busy making money doing TV interviews and her mom is not rushing to help - compare this to Kathy Hilton - and her pals are telling the media that they are afraid Lindsay Lohan may harm herself.

Harm herself?  What do you think she’s been doing for months now? The Washington Post has compiled a nice timeline of LiLo’s self-destruction.

Will she do jail time? Yes, here’s why.

Paris Hilton - What Happens When U (& Paris) Go To Jail

Jun. 4th 2007

parishilton.jpgLast night, Paris Hilton evaded the media hoard surrounding the Lynwood County jail in LA by surrendering to authorities at a downtown LA all-male facility.  Paris was then transported to the Lynwood facility.

Starting today, she’s serving half of her sentence, or approximately 3 weeks, in a 12 foot by 8 foot cell that contains two bunks as well as a toilet.  So far, she doesn’t have a roomie.

Just so you know, Paris has not had any special treatment thus far — assuming media reports are accurate.

So, exactly what happens when you are arrested and jailed?
