Well, Britney Spears’ two boys have not seen their mother since mid-January, and it’s not clear if they are going to be able to be near their mom anytime soon. Reuters reports that the Commissioner (aka judge) presiding over the Kevin Federline - Britney Spears custody fight has denied her request to alter his ruling from last month and there’s not any word on when that bar to Britney having any access to her boys will change.
Still, despite all the news stories - drug use, bipolar disorder, rehab, 5150 stays, reckless driving - where’s Child Protective Services in all this? Shouldn’t they be involved here?

It’s not news that Britney Spears hasn’t been close with her parents, and that she doesn’t trust her dad, Jamie Spears. What if Jamie Spears is an evildoer, and Britney’s right to distrust him? Right now, he’s acting as conservator of Britney’s $40 million estate….
The New York Times and the BBC report that Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz ordered a psychiatric determination on Monday, to determine if Britney Spears is capable of making her own decisions. This means that Commissioner Goetz has appointed a mental health professional of her choosing, to evaluate Britney and thereafter, report his/her professional findings back to the Court. His deadline? February 13.
Why did Commissioner Goetz order this on Monday? She’s already placed Britney in a mental health facility, and she’s already ordered Jamie Spears and local attorney Andrew Wallet to act as co-conservators of Britney’s affairs.
What if Britney’s Dad, Jamie Spears, is the Bad Guy - and now, he’s got her checkbook?

TMZ is reporting that Britney Spears not only suffers from bipolar disorder, but she has seen numerous doctors for the condition and is being prescribed medication to treat the disease. What is bipolar disorder? Can the court make her take the medications? Can she be stopped from seeing her boys if she’s not current on her meds?

The story is still unfolding on Dr. Phil’s entry into the Britney Spears storyline, as TMZ is reporting today that Britney’s parents, Jamie and Lynn Spears, appeared via their family representative on NBC’s Today show to refute that anyone gave Dr. Phil the authority to say anything about Britney, and that they declined an invitation that Dr. Phil made to them for a segment on his show about Britney Spears.
Meanwhile, there are also reports that tests from Cedars-Sinai Hospital have been leaked to the press, showing that Britney tested clean for both alcohol and drugs during her recent forced stay at their facility.
So, what about PRIVACY laws here? Even celebrities have civil rights. What about patient privacy?

Commissioner Gordon signed a specific court order in mid-December, specifically ordering Britney Spears to attend the deposition that had already been ordered by the court to occur, and which had been scheduled at least twice prior to that court-ordered date.
Her reason for the last no-show? She was sick, although TMZ reported that she out playing with friends later that same day.
What happens if Britney doesn’t show to this January deposition? Will she get arrested?

Star of Nickolodeon’s Zoey 101, 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant, and says her boyfriend Casey Aldridge is the father.
They met at church, and have been dating for awhile. It’s unclear from current news reports how long they’ve been an item, some say as long as 2 years. Casey’s age is reported at either 18 or 19.
Britney Spears denied the story to TMZ, but US Magazine has a 16-page spread, and OK! Magazine broke the story, quoting Jamie Lynn directly. Their father, Jamie, is reportedly furious about both (1) the pregnancy and (2) Jamie Lynn and mom, Lynn, selling the story to the highest bidder.
So, what’s the law here?

Orlando Bloom is reportedly being investigated by Los Angeles authorities for a hit and run last Friday night. Driving a friend’s car, Orlando had a car crash that left his friend (riding in the front passenger seat) with a fractured neck. Paparazzi recorded Orlando walking away from the scene, and then walking back, and later asking someone to call 911.
Lindsay Lohan’s out of rehab, but she still has to face hit and run charges stemming from her collision with a tree last Memorial Day. Lindsay was also charged with DUI - and cocaine was allegedly discovered in the car, as well. Lindsay was filmed running from the scene by paparazzi ….
Britney Spears was charged with hit and run on Monday, after she bumped her convertible Mercedes into another vehicle while she was parking the car. Paparazzi caught the entire episode — including Britney checking her car for damage, but not the victim’s, before going on her merry way — on video.
Okay, what’s up with these hit and run charges - and who should be most worried?

This afternoon, Kiefer Sutherland’s attorney announced that he pleads “no contest” to Driving Under the Influence (he was arrested on 9/25 for two misdemeanor counts of DUI) — he pled the same thing to a prior DUI in 2004.
Also this afternoon, Britney Spear’s attorney appeared in court on her behalf — and Britney has been ordered to come into LA County and be booked for hit and run before the big 10/26 hearing in her custody case.
What’s the big deal about all this?

First, the kids: the next hearing in the Britney Spears - Kevin Federline custody fight is scheduled for 10/26/07 before Commissioner Gordon (am I the only one that thinks “Batman” every time this guy’s name pops up?) …. Here’s a round-up:
10.04.07 – Britney Misses First Court-Ordered Visitation With the 2 Boys
Britney’s kids wait in the car, stuck at the security gate, for 45 minutes and then return to Kevin Federline. Britney Spears’ alleged reasons for not seeing her kids: she was asleep and didn’t hear the buzzer, the intercom was broken, and today, Britney didn’t want to have the parenting coach around so she just didn’t answer the door. Britney also tried to have the first visit in an hotel room, but Kevin Federline’s attorney nixed that (assumedly he threatened a court hearing on the issue) and Britney checked out of the hotel and returned home for the visit.
10.03.07 Visitation Order Requires Supervision Of Britney During Visits
Another hearing - another Order: this one placing even more restrictions on Britney Spears, in part because the Judge noted she had not been in “substantial compliance” with his prior orders and also in response to Britney not showing up for drug testing. Now, not showing up for a test will be “deemed by the court as a failed test.”
Together, Commissioner Gordon’s two orders require the following:

Britney Spears was out partying again, within hours after the end of this week’s Custody hearing. At the hearing, the Court determined that “there is a habitual, frequent, and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol” by Britney, and ordered her to have random drug testing twice a week, as well as testing clean for at least 12 hours before she has possession of her children. (There’s also lots of counseling and classwork required for both Britney and K-Fed, and future court dates are set.)
TMZ has posted the Commissioner’s Order online in case you want to read what Commissioner Gordon has required of both Britney Spears and Kevin Federline.
So, what’s really happening here? Did Britney win or lose? Did K-Fed get something here?
