The chase ended with Strength crashing the excavator into the Harvey Canal and attempting to swim away from authorities. The chase began around 10:30pm when Strength stole the piece of equipment and was then seen driving it recklessly on the lower expressway. Authorities request he pull over, and he refused. Because of the machines size, authorities couldn't do much to stop him from continuing his  path of destruction. He continued to drive on and took down many tress and utility poles and charged at patrol cars attempting to stop him. Strength later crashed into a support beam, but did not cause significant damage prior to running through a fence and sinking the excavator into the Harvey Canal. Once in the canal, the suspect began swimming back and forth to elude arrest and was apprehended and charged with DWI, auto theft, aggravated obstruction of a highway, resisting an officer, aggravated criminal damage, and simple criminal damage to property valued over $5,000.
