There are many subtleties in the DWI law code, and almost all of them are designed to take drivers off of the road and put them in a cell. Benjamin Edwards, 23, learned this the hard way when he was charged with a DWI while riding his bicycle. [caption id="attachment_1890" align="alignright" width="211"] Photo Courtesy of wgal.com[/caption] After a night of drinking, Edwards decided to take his bike home, which is just slightly more sensible than driving, but when police questioned the obviously intoxicated man, he had a blood alcohol content of 0.3, over three times the legal limit of .08. At this point the story takes a decidedly un-funny turn as Edwards attempted to run from police, making it a few hundred feet before being detained. The young man was charged with public drunkenness, DUI, resisting arrest, and flight to avoid apprehension. Edwards undoubtedly thought he was putting one past law enforcement by cycling home, but we would like to make clear that operating any vehicle under the influence can land you in jail. Cars, bicycles, lawnmowers, and even horses are still subject to DWI laws, although if only the horse is drunk, you might be all right.
