Former NOPD Officer Sentenced to Eight Years for Danziger Bridge Incident

Posted on Dec 1, 2010 in Katrina, Local Issues, NOPD

Former NOPD Officer Michael Hunter was sentenced to eight years in prison this afternoon for his participation in the shooting and police coverup in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that is now being referred to as the Danziger Bridge incident. U.S. District Court Judge Sarah Vance denied requests for delay and imposed the maximum allowable sentence under the law. Hunter will, however, be eligible for a sentence reduction if he testifies against other officers later in the proceedings (which he is expected to do). Michael Hunter pled guilty to obstruction of justice and misprision of a felony earlier this year in April. For backstory on the Danziger Bridge shooting, head to Nola.com.
