Former NOPD Officer Michael Hunter was sentenced to eight years in prison this afternoon for his participation in the shooting and police coverup in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that is now being referred to as the Danziger Bridge incident. [caption id="attachment_1402" align="alignright" width="300"] Photo Courtesy of propublica.org[/caption] Surprisingly enough prosecutors (not Hunter's defense attorneys) had been seeking to delay Mr. Hunter's sentencing until after his testimony against other NOPD officers indicted in the matter. U.S. District Court Judge Sarah Vance denied requests for delay and imposed the maximum allowable sentence under the law. Hunter will, however, be eligible for a sentence reduction if he testifies against other officers later in the proceedings (which he is expected to do).
