On Tuesday a pair of men, one pushing the other in a wheelchair, attempted to board a train at the downtown station. Investigators noticed that the man in the wheelchair was sitting oddly high on what appeared to be an overstuffed seat cushion. After pulling the pair aside for questioning, ten pounds of heroin, $315,000 street value, were discovered in the seat.[caption id="attachment_1166" align="alignright" width="203" caption="Photo Courtesy of connecttristates.com"][/caption] Lewis Fidelis and Guillermo Valdovinas were taken into custody by State and Amtrak police at an oddly timed 4:20 p.m. Drug dealers have been known to use regional rail lines due to the lax security, especially after air transportation became more strictly regulated. Fortunately the train station’s normal security was aided by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program, a federal multi-agency task force. It is believed that they had received information on the pair’s plan to transport the drugs.
