Recent Report Says BP Blames Itself and Others for Oil Spill

September 13th, 2010 | Posted in BP Oil Spill, Local Issues by bloom | No Comments »

In a recent 193-page report released on September 8th, BP blamed itself for much of the explosion and spill of the Deepwater Horizon Rig in the Gulf of Mexico.

They also blamed other companies’ workers at Transocean Ltd. and cement contractor Halliburton. On Saturday, the blowout preventer that failed to stop the oil from leaking from the well off the Louisiana coast was raised from the water and the government is conducting investigations into its failure. Rig workers knew of problems shortly before the explosion but allegedly expressed little concern. Some of BP’s engineers have been accused of cutting corners to save money and time when the blast occurred.

Also found in the report was that the oil spill accident could have been minimized if the crew had directed certain fluids overboard. Halliburton also suggested that BP add certain components to its operation days before the spill but BP rejected this recommendation and the rig exploded five days later.

This report indicates that BP will likely be considered liable for much of the incidental damage related to the oil spill and rig explosion – If you or a loved one have been affected by the Oil Spill, time is of the essence to ensure that you take the actions necessary to allow you to receive the compensation you are due. After a lead from Michael Goslee, a 19 year-old who was arrested for possession of marijuana, investigators raided Jackson’s home and found 125 plants growing in an indoor greenhouse. His sophisticated system of lighting, watering and insulation did not cause any suspicion from neighbors, which is why, investigators believe, that he was en route to expanding his operation.

The plants had the ability to produce 7 lbs of marijuana every 4 months, which is a street value of nearly $30,000. The search also lead to the discovery of cocaine and other drug paraphernalia in Jackson’s home, and he is charged with possession of marijuana and cocaine, distribution, intent to distribute, and possession of paraphernalia. He was released last Friday on a $100,000 bail, and will soon be taken to court.

Although we do not condone such behavior, we understand that people make mistakes and that everyone has as right to competent legal defense. If you or someone you know are arrested for drug possession, contact Bloom Legal today at 504-599-9997 to discuss how we can fight the charges against you.

Supreme Court to Hear Case of New Orleans Prosecution Misconduct

The Supreme Court will take on a New Orleans case, Connick vs. Thompson, in October, from a murder trial in 1985.

The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office is being held responsible for a suspected failure to train their prosecutors because they did not turn over evidence, which ended up acquitting defendant John Thompson, to the criminal defense team.

Thompson was found guilty of murder and spent multiple years on death row for a crime he did not commit, apparently because of this withheld information from the prosecution. Crime lab documents were discovered in 1999, which proved that the blood types originally withheld as evidence did not match. The Supreme Court case against the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office will be heard on October 6th.

This news surfaces during a period when NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas and Mayor Mitch Landrieu are instituting measures to correct widespread corruption throughout the department. If you believe that you have been wrongfully accused of a crime, contact Bloom Legal today at 504-599-9997 to discuss the details of your case.

Fresh off of a stint in L.A.’s Lynwood Correctional Facility, Lindsay Lohan has reportedly received her first bit of good luck with the law in a long time.

Lohan was allegedly stopped by police officers for running through a traffic signal after leaving the Chateau Marmont Hotel. According to some sources, Lohan was trailed by a contingent of paparazzi which caused her to speed and drive erratically. After stopping Lohan, police are reported to have let her go with a warning while issuing citations to some of the paparazzi members involved in her pursuit.

Ms. Lohan’s unexpected break from the police serves as a reminder of the importance of behaving politely and courteously when being pulled over.

Should you or a loved one be pulled over for speeding or any other violation, it is important to remain calm despite the considerable stress that this kind of situation can cause. Remain polite and respectful with police officers without becoming overly-friendly or ‘conversational’. Comply with their instructions unless they request to search your vehicle or person without a warrant. If you are stopped and issued a ticket for any reason, contact Bloom Legal at 504-599-9997 to schedule a free consultation to discuss how we can help fight your ticket today.

St. Bernard Parish president Craig Taffaro, has issued statements indicating that Amigo Enterprises, one of the landholders that has issued a notice to vacate is owed more than $3 million by the contractors staging out of its property. The contracting firms claim that slow response on the part of BP have made it impossible for them to pay the amount owed.

Additionally, St. Bernard Parish owes more than $34 million to Loupe Construction, a firm that has contracted to provide an array of equipment used in the cleanup effort, and is also claiming delays from BP as the reason for non-payment.

BP has issued statements in its defense that claim that St. Bernard Parish officials and contracting agencies have failed on a number of occasions to provide the proper documentation in order to justify reimbursement.
